9th December 20247
Rothesay Motor Services Winter League was back on this week. Week 4 fixtures took place today in great conditions, albeit a bit windy, with the course in excellent condition despite the recent weather. Biggest upset of the day goes to Duncan Lyon and Euan Irvine who defeated reigning champions Carl Kelly and Colin Muir by an impressive 6 and 5. John McBride fancied giving Roddie Leitch and Chrissy Lawrence a head start and never showed up until the second hole where he joined partner Graham Fisher and went on to win 6&4. Donald Standaloft tried to take on Matthew Dunn and John Black by himself but even after being 3 under after 11 holes still succumbed to a 4&3 defeat.
Moment of the day goes to Gordon Macintyre, whose father, Robert Macintyre, passed away last week. Gordon and Robert McArthur defeated Hector and Neil Whitelaw and earned their first win of the season. Standing on the first green Gordon holed a mammoth putt and without blinking an eye looked up to the sky and said, “That’s for you Teddy”. A great moment GMac and your dad would be so proud.
In the other games John Whitelaw and sub-Colin Renfrew defeated Sam Jamieson and Iain McFarlane and Martin Young and sub-Matt Mclean beat Kalum Ledicott and Stuart Gilchrist.
Next Sunday 15th we jump back a week to week 3 fixtures. See below League standings after 3 rounds and fixtures for Sunday 15th.
A huge thanks to all at Rothesay Motor Services for their continued support.
11th November 2024

Great day for golf, wet, foggy and cold, perfect conditions for some great scoring.
The course as always was in great condition thanks to Duncan and Graham
The food and drink this week was spot on with homemade cottage pie on offer amongst other delights.
Result from Week 2.
League A

John McBride & Graham Fisher bt John Black & Matthew Dunn 5&4
League B
Stuart Gilchrist & Kalum Ledicott bt Sam Jamieson & Iain McFarlane 1 up
John Whitelaw & David McNee bt Alex Morrison-Cowan & Martin Young 1up

Carl Kelly & Colin Muir bt David Greer & Alan Stewart 1up
A few questions answered this week, Roddie and Chrissy showing their class in a good win over Spall and Martin, even though Martin tried to nobble Roddie with shots of tequila at Bute Yard the night before. Fisher did turn up this week with he and birdie running away with a 5&4 against the current club champion.
In league B the young boys Gilk and Kalum proved too good for Sam and Iain with a good win denying the Match secretary and his second in command 2 wins in a row.
John Whitelaw proved he has got the endurance winning with David against Alex and Martin in a five hour marathon.
In league C Neil once again proved he is the best golfing Whitelaw with a great win without his dad against father and son duo David and Ryan.
Everyone’s 4th favourite Lawrence Sean battled on his own for a good win against Kaki and Gordy.
League D saw Dunky and Ewan with a 5&4 walkover which will give their goal difference a great boost, but it was last years winners Colin and Carl again grinding out a hard 1up win against Davie Greer and Big Al
Well done to everyone again this week in damp condition, special mentions this week got to Stuart Gilchrist who was on to shoot around the 80 mark, which off a handicap of 24 is great shooting. (Also my 105 yard chip in for a 2 for 1 on the 14th to win the match 5&4)
Keep your eyes peeled for the league standings and the third round fixtures.
As usual huge thanks to Leighton Reid and family from Rothesay Motor Services for their continued support.

Great turnout on a murky day weather wise, well done to everyone that entered.
