Round 3 Rothesay Motor Services Winter League
13th December 2021
Sunday 12th December was the third round of The Rothesay Motor Services Winter League at Port Bannatyne Golf Club. Even after the torrential rain we had during the week the course was in excellent condition so a huge thanks to Duncan and Graham for ensuring the course remains playable with no mats required and still playing to normal greens.
In League A David Reid and David Driver cemented their place at the top of the leader board with an excellent 4&2 victory over Matthew Dunn and John Black. Rumour has it that Matthew was too focussed on ensuring he got finished in time for the final round of the Formula 1 championship. Allan Stewart and Hector Whitelaw had another good win against Colin Renfrew and Scott Dunn, who was substituting for has dad Graham due to work commitments, with a 4&3 victory. In the final game in League A Sam Jamieson and Jim Bicker thought they had the game in the bag after going 4up after 6 with Sam holing out for a 2 from around 80 yards at the 6th but David Greer and Iain McFarlane played some excellent golf to earn a well-deserved draw at the last.
In League B there were a few call offs due to other commitments. This gave league leaders David Kilpatrick and John Whitelaw and Francois Lintermans and John McBride 5&4 walkover victories. In the remaining match in League B, the Welsh Dragon, Leighton Thomas was left all alone once again after a no show from partner Joe Livingstone. This didn’t deter Leighton who pulled out all the stops to defeat Gordon McIntyre and Robert McArthur 5&3.
In league C, league leaders Phill Williams and Stewart Izzat were another pairing who benefited from a call off and secured top place with a 5&4 walkover victory over Mark Crichton and Mike Manvell. New pairing of Chrissy Lawrence and Neil McKirdy gave father and son pairing of Roddie and Ryan Leitch a bit of a lesson with a 4&3 victory. I don’t think Ryan was much help to his dad as he was a bit under the weather from the night before. In the final game of league C Iain Andrews and Dougie Menzies took advantage of their opponents having to climatise to the weather after their break in Turkey. Iain and Dougie overtook Donald Standaloft and Jim Thom in the league with a 3&2 victory.

Rothesay Motor Services winter League
The second round of matches in The Rothesay Motor Services Winter League took place on Sunday in chilly conditions. Three teams now have maximum points from the first two rounds of games, one team from each league, and seem to be the front runners in the five rounds of the league format.
In league A, new partnerships of David Reid and David Driver stamped their authority at the top with a 3&1 victory over Allan Stewart and Hector Whitelaw. David Greer and Iain McFarlane are chasing the top two with a convincing 7&5 victory over Graham Dunn and Colin Renfrew. In the other match in League A, Matthew Dunn, playing himself due to illness, got off to a shaky start and was 3 down after 3 holes but managed to pull through with an excellent 2 up victory over Jim Bicker and Sam Jamieson.
In League B, Bike Shed partners David Kilpatrick and John Whitelaw put a couple of points between themselves and second place with a 3&2 victory over Francois Lintermans, who was playing himself after another call off. Mike Ivory and Duncan Lyon secured a walkover victory after their opponents got the times mixed up and showed up 1 hr late. Robert McArthur and Gordon McIntyre hold up the league after their defeat of 4 &2 at the hands of Graham Fisher, who was also playing alone due to another call off.
League C`s 100% record is held by Donald Standaloft and Jim Thom who secured their 2nd victory with a 3&1 victory over the father and son pairing of Roddie and Ryan Leitch. Stewart Izzat and Phill Williams started off the days proceedings teeing off not long after 8am with Dougie Menzies and Iain Andrews and took the game all the way to the 18th only to get a draw and I am assured that it was a close game all the way. The final game of the day saw new members Chrissy Lawrence and Neil McKirdy secure a 5&3 victory over Mike Manvell and Callum McPhaill (subbing for Mark Crichton) which means last years beaten finalists are now bottom of the group.

November Medal
GMAC TAKES THE MEDAL
Last Sunday, at Port Bannatyne Golf Club, was the November Monthly Medal. With the course in excellent condition, despite the previous days weather, it was Gordon MacIntyre who tamed the course with an excellent gross 87 for a nett 62 to come out as the overall winner. I think you can expect a cut in your handicap now Gordy.
Francois Lintermans took home the first class prize with a gross 75 (63) with new member Chrissy Lawrence taking the third class with a gross 85 (66).
Donald Standaloft took home the Scratch prize with a two under par 66.
Only one 2 was scored by Iain McFarlane after he birdied the last.
Well done all.

Rothesay Motors Winter League Week 2
7th November 2021
The Rothesay Motor Services Winter league got underway at Port Bannatyne Golf Club on Sunday in blustery conditions.
With the course in excellent condition, even after the recent bout of bad weather, a total of 18 teams braved the wind.
League A looks as though it could be a close call with two of the three matches ending in half matches. New partnership of David Reid and David Driver take an early lead in the group with a 4&3 victory over Sam Jamieson and Jim Bicker.
In League B, last years champions Francois Lintermans and John McBride started the competition as they finished last year with a 6&5 victory over Robert McArthur and Gordon McIntyre. Due to injuries Leighton Thomas and Graham Fisher battled it out in a singles match with Leighton winning 5&4. The Bike Shed partnership of David Kilpatrick and John Whitelaw also got off to winning start defeating green keeper Duncan Lyon and Mike Ivory 3&2.
There was some confusion in League C regarding tee times which lead to Chrissy Lawrence and Neil McKirdy starting the season off with zero points after failing to show up on time for their tee-off giving new partnership of Phil Williams and Stewart Izzat a walkover 5&4 victory. Iain Andrews and Dougie Menzies equalled the high score of the day with a 6&5 victory over father and son duo of Ryan and Roddie Leitch.
