Championship and Arthur Slack trophies
Yesterday saw the climax of our Championship and Arthur Slack trophies. With Donald Standaloft v Graham Dunn and John Whitelaw v Robert McArthur, going head to head respectively.
The final was contested over 36 holes with the Arthur Slack over 18.
The first 18 holes in the morning was quite a tight affair with Donald taking an early lead but Graham digging in and pegging him back and they were all square through 6. Donald then went on a birdie spree to go 1 up at the turn and 3 up through 18.
All four finalists were then wined and dined before heading back out.
To continue with the Championship, the players halved 19 and 20, with Grahams short game starting to cause Donald some problems.
But then Donald came into his own winning the next 4 holes on a birdie spree to go 7 up through 24 holes. Adding to this at hole 28 to go 8 up. Graham who was then down but by no means out, showed why he has been one of the most consistent golfers up here for years, rallying to win the next 2 holes to be cut the deficit to 6.
This only pushed Donald who won the next to take the club Championship title with a 7&5 victory.
Well done Donald and commiserations to Graham.
The Arthur Slack was a similar affair, with John taking an early lead, Robert then steadied the ship a little, although with Johns superior distance off the tees it didn’t take long for him to gain a commanding lead, going 4 up with some great shots. Again Robert though dug deep, holed some great putts and his short game was almost perfect.
John never waivered though and powered on to win the Arthur Slack 6&5.
Well done John , commiserations to Robert.
As always course absolutely impeccable, huge thanks to Duncan and Graham, the latter although playing in the final was up at 6am to cut the greens.
Thanks to Jean and Mike Ivory for the food and drinks.
Well done again to our winners.

So we proved again we are not just a Golf Club. North Bute Primary school used our clubhouse today for their fundraising Bingo day. Over 40 people brought their “dabbers” and got their eyes down for some family fun. 10 rounds of bingo, a bonus ball scratch card, a raffle, and an auction. With the club donating prizes, friends and families donating bottles, gift sets, toys etc etc, the school raised £660 for the kids trip. Huge thanks to Heather Sweet for the bingo and the running of the raffle, also big thanks go to Susan Slaven and Mandy McLaughlan for planning the whole event. Great to give back to the island. Get in touch if you wish to hire the clubhouse for your event, if it’s for a local cause or a charity and you use the bar it’s free of charge.

Rothesay Motors Winter League week 5
Biggest upset of the week was Davie Greer and Big Al beating last years winners Colin and Carl 6&4, maybe not a huge surprise of the result but the score line is a bit of a shock. A lot of people standing in as a substitute this week as this was pencilled in due to last weeks call off. The course was in superb condition and as always we were all fed and watered in the bar afterwards. The leagues will be posted soon, but with one qualifier to go, there are still a few leagues which will go to the wire.
